Report highlights Belonging as key factor in community health

Edmonton Vital Signs report is an annual check-up to measure how our community is doing with a focus on a specific topic. This year's report looked at belonging and social isolation and the communities that are at risk.

Belonging is defined as personal involvement in a system or environment in which a person feels an integral part of that system or environment.

When we feel we belong, research shows:

We are healthier; Sustained employment improves; Social inclusion improves; Neighbourhoods are safer; Life has more purpose; Contributions of time and money increase; Children learn better; Culture and identity flourish; Public health improves; Participation in society increases; Communities are more resilient.
